IIso Numero is a social enterprise that creates work opportunities for people who cannot find income elsewhere. Our mission is to support our sellers in earning money, gaining skills, and building confidence. We help people help themselves.
Since 2011, more than 1,500 people – representing over 15 nationalities, from Finland as well as across Europe, Asia, and South America – have sold the magazine and collectively earned over two million euros. Across the Helsinki Metropolitan area, thousands of loyal readers and supporters buy Iso Numero every month.
As a social enterprise, we reinvest all profits back into our work – to support sellers, publish the magazine, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization.
How it works
Iso Numero sellers are self-employed. They decide where and when they work.
Anyone can sell the magazine, regardless of nationality, or language skills. Before their first shift, each seller takes part in a short training with sales tips and guidance. Every beginner receives free magazines, a photo ID, and a vest – and can start selling right away.
After the starter pack of free magazines, sellers can buy new copies from our office for €7.50 and sell them on the street for a suggested price of €15. With additional opportunities to get free magazines, the average seller’s income is about €10–11 per copy.
A regular sales spot, consistent working hours, and a friendly attitude make a big difference. We also provide sellers with basic Finnish and English vocabulary – even a few words can open doors.
Governance
Iso Numero is published by Isot Tekijät ry, a non-profit association founded by the magazine’s staff. The association is responsible for publishing, business development, and long-term strategy.
We are a transparent, socially responsible organization that reinvests all profits back into our mission. Our long-term goal is to create more diverse work opportunities for people at risk of exclusion. Iso Numero carries the prestigious Social Enterprise Finland label.
